I can still remember the pain in the heel of my hand. Light, but throbbing. The only light in the cavernous hallway spilled out from the near-empty event hall, where tournament staff waited for eight players to finish their matches in the final tournament of the year. Battle Box (and my stack, Danger Room Cube – all Cubes for that matter) are interesting deck building exercises because unlike most other formats the objective is balance that creates a matrix that is the most fun and dynamic play experience for all the players. There are times I want to make a note or alteration to my card, but don’t want to ruin the secondary market value. Most of my decks use Perfect Fits because I have a mix of old and new cards that require different levels of protection. Might as well take a permanent marker to the perfect fit and have some fun.

I started Magic around the 8th Edition and my favorite cards at the time were Elf decks. A friend of mine named Tom Mann (may he rest in peace) taught me how to play and built my elf deck. I remember how quickly it got out of hand! Gaining infinite life.
