We had another fun-filled week of in store play here at RIW Hobbies and Games and today’s article will highlight what’s been going on in our weekly event metagames as well as what’s coming up on the horizon at the store. Last week was a great week for in store events, and we’re already looking forward to another great week upcoming highlighted by our $1K Series Commander event on Sunday.
RIW Hobbies offers a robust schedule of in-store MTG play options for players to choose from with events nearly every night of the week. So, whatever your preference of format we invite you to join us in our weekly events.
We also have a special $1K Series event coming up this weekend which will be a multiplayer Commander event taking place on October 29th, so don’t miss out on that one!

Let’s recap last week’s action!
TUESDAY OCTOBER 17 – 6PM MODERN
Weekly Modern is the latest addition to our weekly MTG events schedule and players have been showing up and showing a lot of love for the format. It’s definitely a fan favorite here at RIW.
The biggest news in Tournament Magic last week was the DCI making No Changes in any constructed format and that was a hot topic with players last week.
“Players were generally unimpressed with the changes (or lack thereof) to the B&R list. Scam continues to be an issue with people’s enjoyment of the game, and Wizards’ lack of address for it was less than appreciated by a lot of players. Some thought that a possible reason for this is that we are in the middle of Modern RCQ season and they didn’t want to affect that format much, but it’s unclear about their reasons for other formats.” –Gabe
Join us every Tuesday for in store Modern play.
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 18 – 6PM PAUPER
RIW has a long history of Pauper fandom and the adventure continues…
2 Sticker Goblin Turbo Initiative
1 Mono Red Sticker Goblins
1 Pam, playing Izzet Spells
Playing for 4-0 we have Bradley Tinney with Dimir Terror and Nick Norman with Golgari Gardens. You can spot a few familiar faces behind the counter in these photos 🙂
Nick Norman goes 4-0.” –KAYLA
Our Pauper Metagame is always quite diverse and a lot of fun to play. Hope to see you there on Wednesday.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 19 – 6PM PIONEER
9 players and 9 different decks! Our metagame continues to be extremely diverse with players fielding a wide array of strategies.
“Pioneer players were more interested in talking about changes to Booster packs than the lack of changes to the format.” –Gabe
We look forward to another great week of events and to celebrating our 25th Anniversary with all of you next week!
