Before jumping into today’s topic, I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about myself to help provide some context. I have been playing Magic: The Gathering at a somewhat competitive level since the early 2010’s, with some breaks between then and now. I was primarily a Legacy player, but have also been playing Pauper since what seems like the early days of the format. The earliest event that I participated in on MTGO was in October 2012, at least that is what I could find in my MTGO game record….
We’re just weeks away from the B&R update on December 16 where The One Ring is likely to be removed from Modern.
In all of Magic: the Gathering, there wasn’t really a format that existed that hit my buttons – so, I made up my own! If you’re a fan of multiplayer Magic and trying out playing with the most powerful cards ever created in a multiplayer setting – you’ve come to the right place!
I’m preparing for RIW’s cEDH 1K on November 2; these four cards being added to the ban list has shaken up the format. I personally welcome the bans to flatten out the average draws.
Hey everyone!
There was quite the shakeup with the Latest B&R announcement by WOTC.
Today I’m going to discuss the Pioneer, Legacy, and Modern bans as well as my Griefless Esper Goryo’s build in Modern.
Let’s get to it!
In the closing of 2023 I’m going to share my top five archetypes that I played this year. This year my son was born so I decided to focus on a couple easy to pilot decks in each format rather than the flavor of the week. Thankfully I had plenty of great results despite this change in approach.
We are approaching the second James Beeton Memorial Weekend at RIW Hobbies on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6. A member of the historic, elite Team RIW, James trained alongside and inspired some of the greatest players in Magic history. Between cross-state trips to premier events, the competitive grind of old-school organized play, and his beloved local shenanigans, he was a core member of the crew, and his absence can never be filled.
CEDH has quickly become my preferred Magic: the Gathering format to play because it incorporates so many of the classic Eternal cards I grew up playing with, and against, over the years. I’ve been playing and collecting cards since the game began back in the day and I’ve been looking for a format where I can enjoy playing with my favorite cards and CEDH hits the mark for me much more so than any other constructed format.
“Power” is an abstract term that has been thrown around in Magic since the very beginning of the game and continues to dominate social discourse and how player’s think about, discuss, build decks and play the game, especially in Commander. In today’s article, I’ll be breaking down how I think about and assess “Power” cards in EDH and how that translates to building and playing better decks regardless of what “Power Level” I’m aiming for with my build.
Hey everyone!
I’ve been dipping my toes into all sorts of formats lately as RIW Hobbies began their 1K series. There are opportunities to win boatloads of store credit and I want to have as many shots as possible. Last month I split the finals of the Pauper 1K and now I’m trying my hand at cEDH with the RIW 25th Anniversary 1K on October 29.
