#MTGFOUNDATIONS is EASILY one of my favorite Magic: The Gathering sets of the past 4-5+ years which was surprising to me because it is a Core set with a lot of reprints. Typically, because I don’t play 60-card Tournament formats anymore, and because I’ve collected the cards I actually want in their original printings – I tend to take a pass on Core Sets, but this set is AWESOME!
In all of Magic: the Gathering, there wasn’t really a format that existed that hit my buttons – so, I made up my own! If you’re a fan of multiplayer Magic and trying out playing with the most powerful cards ever created in a multiplayer setting – you’ve come to the right place!
Battle Boxing is my favorite way to play Magic: the Gathering, and today I’ll be sharing much of what I’ve learned about playing and tuning my personal Battle Box, “The Danger Room,” for multiplayer games with friends.
Lost Caverns of Ixalan was a great set and I’m excited to finally get the new cards into my Battle Box Commander Cube to play with for dueling and drafting. One of the things I love so much about my stack is that it provides a TON of versatile play opportunities because it’s functional as a 1v1 Battle Box stack, a 1v1 Cube Draft, or a multiplayer EDH Cube.
I’m proud of the opportunity to once again provide an update to one of Magic’s longest updated decks, my The Danger Room stack! Today, I’ll be sharing my favorite picks for Battle Boxes, and unpowered Cubes alike. The cards I’ve selected from MTG’s newsest expansion, Wilds of Eldraine, to make the cut in my “big stack” have to carry their weight in 1v1 Battle Box play, 1v1 Cube as well as EDH Cube. So, I tend to gravitate toward cards that I view as having a lot of “play” to them without being too broken for Limited style gameplay my stack supports.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a serious update to my Danger Room Battle Box Cube. In this installment, I’ll be going over some of the changes I’ve made to update and curate my stack/cube over the past few months. I’ll also be providing my picks for my favorite Battle Box staples from the Lord of the Rings expansion.
Brother’s War and Phyrexia One are both strange, but exciting, MTG expansionss for outstanding payables for Battle Boxes and Battle Box themed Cubes. Today, I’m going to cover the cards that I think find themselves most at home in a Battle Box “big stack” and also have great application in my Cube version of the stack.
Battle Box (and my stack, Danger Room Cube – all Cubes for that matter) are interesting deck building exercises because unlike most other formats the objective is balance that creates a matrix that is the most fun and dynamic play experience for all the players. When we build decks for other formats (Pioneer, Modern, or even Commander in many cases) we typically assess which cards will make our deck more or less powerful and in most cases aim to improve the power level of our decks with our card choices.
Welcome to the biggest Danger Room Cube update of ALL TIME featuring new additions from Commander Legends: Baldur’s Gate & Dominaria United! Both offer fantastic staples for Battle Boxes (and combination Battle Box / Cube stacks – such as mine, shown below).
