Let me start by saying that I’m 100% unfamiliar with the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise and because of that I assumedMTG AVATAR was going to be another Universes Beyond “Not for me” set (especially coming on the heels of the MTG Spider Man set which I found to be flavorfully unappealing and quite frankly a weak collection of cards). So, going into this spoiler season, my expectation was that I would not like this set because of my unfamiliarity with the non-mtg source material and recent trends.
Today, I’ll focus on a specific Commander deck I’ve been tuning for 4 years, Rin & Seri, and what I’ve learned about building an aggressive strategy for Bracket 2. If you want to “make it rain” Cats and Dogs or just pick up some solid fundamental tips for building / tuning a deck – you’ve come to the right place!
After the banning of Dockside Extortionist, Jeweled Lotus, and Mana Crypt we’re beginning to see a new metagame solidify. Grixis-based Storm decks got a huge nerf without the explosive nature of Dockside and Mana Crypt which paved the way for a slower format.
#MTGFOUNDATIONS is EASILY one of my favorite Magic: The Gathering sets of the past 4-5+ years which was surprising to me because it is a Core set with a lot of reprints. Typically, because I don’t play 60-card Tournament formats anymore, and because I’ve collected the cards I actually want in their original printings – I tend to take a pass on Core Sets, but this set is AWESOME!
I’m preparing for RIW’s cEDH 1K on November 2; these four cards being added to the ban list has shaken up the format. I personally welcome the bans to flatten out the average draws.
Today I would like to share my eight favorite cards from Modern Horizons 3. The set is new and unique enough where I’m not comfortable ranking them from 1-8 quite yet. Overall I’m very happy with the set as it contains plenty of interesting additions to forgotten archetypes and made some old favorites like Snapcaster Mage playable yet again. Most of the cards I like change the Modern metagame without warping the format. It’s clear WOTC learned from the mistakes of MH2.
RIW is proud to bring the great competitive and friendly atmosphere of the store to Twitch with our new stream lineup. Not only will we continue to be streaming our $1k series and other special events, but you can also now see RIW players at least four days a week from anywhere that can access Twitch!
Battle Boxing is my favorite way to play Magic: the Gathering, and today I’ll be sharing much of what I’ve learned about playing and tuning my personal Battle Box, “The Danger Room,” for multiplayer games with friends.
Today I’m going to discuss my current version of Tivit after my near miss at winning a local 2K. There was stiff competition and I managed to fire off a win attempt in top 4 as well as finish 4-1-1 in the swiss.
In the closing of 2023 I’m going to share my top five archetypes that I played this year. This year my son was born so I decided to focus on a couple easy to pilot decks in each format rather than the flavor of the week. Thankfully I had plenty of great results despite this change in approach.
