I’m back with a top 4 split at the RIW Modern RCQ last weekend playing Rakdos Scam. There were 67 players with plenty of Michigan ringers so it was no small feat. I won $275 credit which was used to buy cEDH staples for the RIW 1K on October 29. Today I’m going to share the list I used in the event and some general thoughts on the deck.
The Magic world was hoping for a shakeup. Last Monday was a Banned and Restricted announcement that many people hoped would lead to splashy unbans in the Modern format like Splinter Twin or Field of the Dead, as well as bans from Mono-Green Devotion in Pioneer. What we got was tame by comparison: Preordain was unbanned in Modern and Mind’s Desire was unbanned in Legacy.
I’ve been playing plenty of Modern in preparation for NRG Detroit. Temur Rhinos has seen a resurgence and is a deck I’ve enjoyed in the past. Today I will cover the metagame changes from Pro Tour: Lord of the Rings and the many deckbuilding options for Temur Rhinos.
This past weekend, I competed at the 2022 NRG Championship and finished in 5th place. I would have loved to win the event, but I was stoked to see my RIW teammate Raja take it down! The stacked 16-player tournament was one of the most fun I’ve ever played. Everything from competition, preparation, and atmosphere the Nerd Rage Gaming staff provided made this an event I will be shooting to qualify for again in the 2023 season.
This past Monday, we received a ban announcement featuring two cards, one from Standard and one from Modern
Today, I’m going to talk about my take on Living End as it’s a great choice in the post Yorion Modern metagame. A proactive game plan is an excellent strategy after a huge shakeup.
