RIW Hobbies & Games is excited to announce a bunch of fun events for our upcoming MTG COMMUNITY WEEKEND celebration, to take place July 26th-28th.

We wanted to assemble and schedule events that bring together players of all levels of experience for some fun community gathering all weekend long. The centerpiece of the weekend will be the return of, and back by Paup-ular demand, The 2024 RIW PDH Pauper Commander Championship event!
We have a ton of great MTG community themed events and will be hosting a BBQ cookout for our players all weekend long!
Here’s the catalog of what we have “in-store” for our MTG Community, July 26-28th:
FRIDAY (JULY 26) – 6PM? BLOOMBURROW PRERELEASE & PDH DECKBUILDING / PLAYTESTING WORKSHOP
There are few events in the multiverse that bring the MTG Community together quite like a Prerelease! The Friday sealed Bloomburrow Prerelease will begin at 6PM, with $35 entry, and prizes based on attendance, as per usual.
In addition to the prerelease festivities on Friday we’ll also be hosting (and streaming on Twitch) a free-to-participate-in Pauper Commander (PDH) Playtesting and Deck Tuning Workshop for players looking to practice for Saturday’s epic RIW Pauper Commander (PDH) Championship. Speaking of which…
SATURDAY (JULY 27) – THE 2024 RIW PAUPER COMMANDER (PDH) CHAMPIONSHIP – 12PM
*Prizes based on attendance.
Our Pauper Commander Event last year was the largest the format has produced to date with 44 players, and we’re hoping to top that in 2024!
We’re also excited that many of your favorite PDH personalities from across the country will be flying in to play, as well as commentate the event for our Twitch channel; including, @pauper_b, @lobbert8, @derekdearreader (PDH RC), @TheTryhards6 (PDH RC), @Ruffigan (PDH RC), @ExgotheRickers, @Scoobydrew0, & @OneMoreGameMTG.
One reason we picked Pauper Commander as our MTG Community Weekend centerpiece event is that as a format it creates a unique cross section for the entirety of the MTG Community, both casual and tournament players, to gather and game together in a fun, budget-friendly, multiplayer setting.
In addition to Pauper Commander, we also hope to run a sealed Bloomburrow Prerelease ($35) starting at 3 PM (permitted we have seating available).
SUNDAY (JULY 28) 1PM CHAOTIC COMMANDER
We’ve got another special Community themed Commander event lined up for Sunday, Chaotic Commander!
Chaotic Commander is a unique blend of Constructed and Limited Commander. Each player will receive one randomly chosen Commander Preconstructed Deck (Pam is making sure we’re giving out the “Good Ones!”) as well as three Commander Themed Booster Packs (Commander Masters, Commander Legends, & Baldur’s Gate – 1 of each) to build a 99 card Commander deck with. Entry for the Chaotic Commander event is $50.
We’re looking forward to celebrating MTG Community Weekend on the tabletops and around the grill with you all in July.
