Welcome to the start of a special new column here on riwhobbies.com about our weekly events at the store. I’ll be writing regularly to keep everyone informed of all the new in store events pertaining to our MTG tournaments as well as casual play.
The biggest news from last week was the return of our Pauper Wednesday and Pioneer Thursday league play here at the store. The league will run up to the week before the release of the next MTG Expansion and end with top league players vying for the title of League Champion (and their name on the League Champions plaque) in a Top 8 playoff.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT 6PM PAUPER
Week One was a fun one here at the store as we kicked off our new league seasons. We had 22 players come out to play. Pauper Wednesday was dominated handily by Brian DeMars’ Boggles deck, allowing him to go undefeated after a draw in the final round.
THURSDAY NIGHT 6PM PIONEER
Not to be outdone, Dan Brooks wanted to make sure his deck choice was on par after recently switching off of UR Phoenix. It seemed to work out well for him, as he was able to pull off an undefeated victory in an 18 player field to start off the Pioneer league in good position.
There’s still plenty of time to get involved in these leagues, as they will run until the week before the next set release. Players earn 3 points just for showing up, then additional points based on final standing each night (3 points per win, 1 point per tie). Not only can you earn your share of the insane store credit prize pool, but if you win the league playoffs you get your name on the wall in the store! There’s always something happening here at the store, so make sure you tune in each week to see what’s Paupin (Weds) Pioneerin’ (Thurs), Draftin’ (FNM), or Commanderin’ (Sunday)!
Looking forward to another great week of in store events and looking forward to another great week of Magic: The Gathering in Michigan!
